    “LinkedIn: The Professional Social Network”

Unlike Facebook, which thrives off of personal information, LinkedIn allows users to post their resumes and make professional connections. The company began in founder Reid Hoffman’s living room in 2002, starting off with around 30 employees. The company has now reached almost 4,000 employees and is growing every day, reaching approximately 200 countries.
One of the essential questions the interviewers asked Reid Hoffman was whether or not LinkedIn could stand the test of time. Technology is constantly changing, that is what allowed for the creation of LinkedIn in the first place. Hoffman discusses “inventing the future in the right way” allowing for LinkedIn to thrive, even as technology progresses.
The company has become revolutionary in its development of the stereotypical office environment. Employees are encouraged to exchange ideas in an effort to make the company better.
Since 2011, the companies shares have increased in value by nearly 300%, proving a successful business model is still accessible to others looking to start their own companies. The company remains successful because of its ability to adapt. The company expanded the content of their website when they realized that not everyone is constantly looking for a job, making LinkedIn more versatile.
CEO Jeff Weiner highlights a sort of Mantra amongst employees, FCS, an acronym for FOCUS. F represents “fewer things done better”, C is “communicating the right information to the right people” and S is “speed and quality of decision making.” Weiner attributes the success and rapid growth of the company to this acronym, and it is evident by the positive office environment, as well as physical success of the company.
LinkedIn is the perfect example of a revolutionary business model. They took advantage of the changes in technology at exactly the right time, and have experienced substantial growth because of it. LinkedIn has surpassed companies of its kind due to versatility and strong managerial representation.

  2. "Inside Linkedin"
    Intro to International Bussiness

Linkedin has transformed the way people search for jobs or hire professionals. It is a social network company like Facebook but it is rather used for professional networking. After watching this documentary I realized linkedin is bigger than I thought. Linkedin’s presence is felt globally, it is used in over 200 countries. It is growing exponentially, 2 new users join linkedin every second. When it started in 2002 it only 30 employees now it has around 4000 employees.
It wants to cater for the changing world and it wants to stay ahead of its competition. One of the key forces and behind this company’s success is its unique culture. Environment in which the employees work and socialize is great which makes them want to see the company do well and sustain its perks. Talent is the number priority when it comes to hiring people.
Many of the hyper growth companies are easily distracted with all countless opportunities they have ahead of them, Linked on the avoided this by sticking to their core and staying true to that. It is trying diversify into its adjacent markets and it recently acquired multiple companies. They are steps away from becoming a media company. It looks like they are ready for variability and seem to be comfortable with change.
They’re three main revenue streams are Talent Solutions 54%, Marketing solutions 26% and premium Subscription 20%. I feel they are going to keep growing and as expand to more countries and more people start to use when they don’t know what to do. Mobile usage is apparently game changing and a lot focus has been placed on that recently, 30% of the weekly users are mobile users and it changed from around 18% last year. Linkedin grew 300% from 2011 it shows that it has successful business model and that they are ready to cater for the future.
Although most of information presented in the documentary was useful it just seemed like an infomercial to me and interview looked like they were for linked and they were trying to promote it.

  3. “Inside:LinkedIn” looks deeper into how a company started in a man’s living room turned into a billion dollar company with over 225 million users and growing rapidly. With 38% of its revenue coming from outside the United States, and two members joining each second, LinkedIn is a hyper growth company. Reid Hoffman described LinkedIn as the anti-Facebook, a network for professionals. The founders of this highly globalized and hyper growth company saw the potential of their idea and turned it into reality. Dealing with the hyper growth was a major question in the interviews with the founders. The key to LinkedIn is the platform, strategy, and culture. Having a collective personality behind the company was a key component in getting the most talented and innovative thinkers to work for LinkedIn. This means having a solid foundation and sticking to your strategy (right infrastructure). This also means establishing culture and values and making day-to-day decisions based on those values. Hiring the right people, managing a certain way, having a board with the same values, and evaluating employees with these values in mind. Managing the growth is making sure you are prepared for change. Staying ahead of the curve is important to keep LinkedIn so viable. Open communication is important for CEO Jeff Weimer because he says it helps figure out what is working and what isn’t, employees really have a say in the business strategy and trajectory.
LinkedIn is transforming the professional sector of business. It looks to shape the future. Now, people who aren’t even actively looking for jobs are updating their profiles. Businesses can post a job and not even have to look for recruits because LinkedIn will suggest possible employees for them through their algorithmic technologies. LinkedIn is helpful for being recruiter, recruiters, staying up to date, following interesting companies and people, and advancing your career and becoming the best at what you do. Now, LinkedIn has bought Pulse and added an Influencers section. People can follow certain successful professionals and see how they succeeded and learn from that. Pulse allows people to get updated news on topics relevant to them straight from their mobile. As Deep Nashir explained, LinkedIn has created an ecosystem where you are given news that applies to you based on the information you have put on your profile. Mobile is becoming an even more integral part of LinkedIn has the employees and founders realize that mobile usage is becoming ever in more demand among the business world, and that’s the next step.
A part I found most interesting was David Sze's eye of finding key investment opportunities (Facebook, Pandora, LinkedIn). He has taken three huge risks in technology companies that have become some of the most successful companies. I would be interested in hearing even more about his thoughts and ideas.

  4. "Inside linkedIn" takes a deeper look into the company and how it began. It began with in his living room and has grown into a multimillion dollar company. LinkedIn is social networking, but with a professional outlook because it used to build connections with companies. It has also become a go-to spot for networking and job searching. I had no idea how large linkedIn really was until I watched the documentary. Some of the stats mentioned was that the company has 259 million users in 200 countries and has two members join every second, went from 40 to over 400 employees since their start, and a reported revenue of $393 million in 2012.

Jeff Weiner the CEO of the company compared being apart of a hyper-growth company to being like a rocket ship in space because even the slightest miscalculation in strategy can become a large problem further down the road.
In a world increasingly driven by technology Weiner said it’s invaluable to have someone on the team who understands technology and the way it’s going to be changing society. The next job is to get in front of those trends and unlock a tremendous amount of value. So they have to stay ahead of the curve and be figuring out what is going to happen and how to respond before anything ever happens.

The company has a unique environment in which employees are promoted to exchange ideas and how to solve problems. This culture that the company has established within itself has helped the company grow and stay ahead of the technological advancements.

I believe that LinkedIn will continue to expand and flourish. I also believe that LinkedIn will become the only way that top company will hire. This site is extremely useful for promoting and advertising your skills to acquire a job.
